Abstract

Introduction: Lupus Nephritis (LN) is a poor prognostic factor in patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). Ultrasound-guided renal biopsy is performed to classify LN. General Objective: To identify the most frequently biopsied classes of LN at the Hospital de Clínicas FCM-UNA.

Specific Objectives: To recognize the clinical presentation in patients with LN and the clinical-pathological correlation of LN in the Hospital de Clínicas. To determine the most frequent clinical indication for biopsy. To know the most frequent technical complications of the procedure.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective, observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study design.

Results: LN was the most frequent (89%, 33/37) cause of secondary glomerulopathy in biopsies. Clinical indications for renal biopsy in LN were proteinuria with a diagnosis of SLE (85%), nephrotic syndrome (6%), nephritic syndrome (6%), and isolated proteinuria (3%). The pathological LN classes found were: 64% class IV-G, 18% class IV-S, 12% class V, 6% class III. Regarding complications, 3% developed minimal perirenal hematoma.

Conclusion: LN class IV-G was the predominant biopsy class in our patients. The most frequent form of presentation was.
