Abstract

Introduction: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is a chronic multisystemic disease prevalent in women of childbearing age. Its evolution depends on factors such as socioeconomic status, which may influence adherence to treatment. This study, in the absence of nationwide data, analyzes whether there is a relationship between socioeconomic status and disease activity.

Objective: To evaluate the association between the level of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Erythematosus activity and the average socioeconomic level in patients of the Rheumatolo- gy Department of the Hospital de Clínicas.

Materials and methods: Observational, analytical and cross-sectional study in patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in a third level center. Epidemiological variables (age, sex, origin) and clinical variables (phenotypes: cutaneous, articular, hematological, renal, among others) were recorded. Activity was assessed with the SLEDAI 2K and socioecono- mic level with the Graffar Scale.

Results: 119 patients were included, 93.3% women, mean age 34.7 ± 13.6 years. Mean SLEDAI 2K was 8.6 ± 7 points. The majority presented a medium (30.3 %) and medium-low (38.7 %) socioeconomic level. No association was found between socioeconomic level and disease activity.

Conclusion: In the Lupus Paraguay 2.0 cohort there was no association between socioeco- nomic level and disease activity. It is recommended to replicate the study with cohorts from other centers to obtain more representative data at national level.
